Canoeing in Lake ManyaraDay 1: Your safari begins in Arusha at 9.00am accompanied by an experienced driver/guide to Lake Manyara National Park. As you approach the Park, the Rift Valley escarpment looms on the eastern horizon forming an impressive backdrop to the lake. Nestling at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment the park is noted for its incredible beauty. The mosaic of the Park's varying habitats is easily seen: the rift wall, the ground water forest, acacia woodlands, open grassland, the lake shore, swamp and the lake itself. The park is well known for its tree-climbing lions, oftentimes resting up in the acacia trees. During a game drive one is also likely to see zebra, elephants, waterbuck, hippo, baboon, and a large variety of bird life. The extraordinary birdlife has made this place world-renowned among ornithologists, who come to observe the masses of pink flamingos and birds of prey. The natural hotwater springs (maji moto) are an additional attraction. Enjoy a relaxing dinner at the Lake Manyara Serena lodge after a long day of travel and in anticipation of your next day safari to the famed Serengeti.

Another interesting feature of the Serengeti are the "kopjes", massive islands of granite standing in a sea of grass, which provide shelter to a great variety of plants and animals, including the cheetah. The next two days are spent exploring these plains on morning and afternoon game drives. Accomodation provided at the Serengeti Serena Lodge.
